Basketball: Hawaii vs. UC Santa Barbara

A bit late:  Hawaii lost to UC Santa Barbara, 50-51, on Saturday. Blergh. It was the Wahine's first home loss of the conference season. The team is now 9-10 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. Kalei Adolpho recorded nine points and five rebounds.

Laura Beeman seemed quite frustrated, saying after the game: "I don't know if it's the youth, a lack of leadership still at times we're struggling with. But we're going to have to figure out how to stay more consistent. We can be really good. But when we don't come out and play and don't come out and focus, we are a very average team."

Hawaii was in the lead 50-49 with 1:34 left in the game, but then turned the ball over, missed a rebound, and allowed a good layup by UC Santa Barbara. Hawaii had the ball on their half of the court with nine seconds left. Laura Beeman said after the game that the play called for the ball to get to Shawna Kuehu but Ashleigh Karaitiana couldn't quite get it to her (Beeman added that Kuehu looked open). Failed desperation play with one second left and that was that.

Dear Rainbow Wahine Basketball team:  You are better than that. Win next time.

Update! Yes, I realize that the picture is from the wrong game. Thanks!

  3. Liked Kalei's interview after game. Asking which she likes better basketball or volleyball. She said from day one, when she signed with UH, that she likes the sport she playing at the time, which is the correct answer.
