Basketball: Hawaii vs. Cal Poly

Hawaii won in an impressive manner last night, defeating Cal Poly 61-43. The team is now 9-9 overall, 5-2 in the Big West, and second in the conference! I missed both the live game and the replay but the play-by-play looks really impressive! At the 11 minute mark, Hawaii led by 17!  At the eight minute mark, Hawaii led by 20. Twenty, you guys.

Here ("Wahine move up to second place") is what Laura Beeman had to say about the win:
"I think a lot of people are going to think it's a statement game," said Beeman, the first-year coach. "For us, it was just a game we knew we had to win. I'm not into statement games. I'm into ‘let's go out and do what we do.'"
Here is what Kamilah Martin said:
"We always talk about protecting our home floor," said Martin, who shot 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 at the line. "I think that's what we did tonight and we're going to continue to … because we gotta take advantage of the home games. They're going to be harder on the road, and you have to win all that you can."
And here is what Ashleigh Karaitiana said:
"Like Coach said, we work hard in practice going through our plays, but she's also stated, at the end of the day we just have to play basketball," said Karaitiana, a redshirt freshman. "I think that's what we did."
Woot!

Update!  Laura Beeman was on the Josh Pacheco Show today. She gave lots of credit to the Big Island girls (the Josh Pacheco Show seems to be based on the Big Island) and their "gorgeous jump shots."  About Vicky Tagalicod:  "I'm so proud of Vicki for her efforts ... her jump shot is absolutely gorgeous."  About Pua Kailiawa:  "Pua has a gorgeous jump shot."

    1. horrible. it's gotten to the point where unless you are one of the "name" sports, you get no attention. the women's basketball team's roster page is still all messed up (there are like 3 2012-13 rosters) but i guess at least the roster is up.

    2. If it makes you feel better, women's tennis already had a conference match and their pictures are still not up and the info for some of the girls is still blank.

    1. Nope. Destiny King's fault. She should have hung on to that freaking rebound off that missed free throw. Then the last plays would have been unnecessary. No clue why she was even on the court instead of Kalei.

  8. We need better towel girls and instead of towels, use your push things like the people on the mainland use. There must be some club or school players who would be willing to do it instead of the little girls.
