Basketball: Hawaii at UC Davis

Hi! Apparently, today's game is at 12:00pm HST. Maybe the scheduling monkeys hate UC Davis women's basketball too. Introductions. There are a couple of exercise biology majors in the UC Davis team; waste of words --- just say kinesiology.

Hawaii 7-14:  There is a pretty big crowd and they are loud. A guy (I assume he is a guy because he is shirtless) is painted blue and wearing a blue wig. Marissa Wimbley travels and now Vicky Tagalicod travels. Apparently, that's the fourth travel violation for Hawaii. Commentator:  "That's something you work out in coaching. That's not really acceptable."

Hawaii 14-18:  Not so bad considering Hawaii was trailing by eight earlier. Shawna Kuehu at the free low line and it is good. Hawaii 17-21. My friend:  "Where is Monica? Wimbley is not doing it." Martin travels. Commentator two:  "Another travel, Ben. This is unacceptable." Your fellow commentator sounds quite grave, Ben. I suggest patting him on the head and telling him it's okay. There, there, Ben's friend, it's okay. My friend gets her wish; Monica DeAngelis is in.

Hawaii 19-27:  Commentator:  "Karaitiana keeping Hawaii in this game," reportedly because UC Davis is focusing on Kamilah Martin. DeAngelis for three! Hawaii 26-29. Commentator:  "Monica DeAngelis seems to be the only guard who can handle this buzz defense." It sounded like he said buzz, so I am going to go with buzz. Ashleigh Karaitiana at the free throw line and makes both.

Hawaii 37-36:  That is correct. Sydney Haydel is reportedly down and has to be helped off the floor. Half. I hope Haydel is okay.

Hawaii 44-41:  Foul by Kalei Adolpho. UC Davis makes both. My friend:  "Someone yelled 'She had her hand on the ball ref!' Is someone there cheering for Hawaii?" Hawaii 44-43. Destiny King attempts a Monica DeAngelis three-pointer and no. Martin at the free throw line and makes the one. I'm kind of impressed by how many people are there watching on a Saturday early afternoon. Haydel is in! She's okay! Three UC Davis players have their hands tented over Karaitiana.       

Hawaii 46-50:  I don't know. DeAngelis for three! And now everything is just awful. The UC Davis dancers are not so much dancing but having seizures on the court. Haydel with a pretty, pretty shot and then is tangled on the floor with a UC Davis player. Hawaii 51-50.

Hawaii 54-51:  My friend:  "Lane violation! Dumb. That would have been a point for us." Me:  What's a lane violation? My friend gets quite angry when she watches basketball. UC Davis fans chanting "Miss that shot" and someone sounds like how I think hyenas in heat would sound like. I Googled it and came across this article, in case you were curious about the mating habits of hyenas. 

Hawaii 61-53:  UC Davis attempts a three pointer and misses. UC Davis for two. Hawaii 61-55. Right. A couple of turnovers by Hawaii. I have no clue what the score is right now. DeAngelis for three! Haydel for two! Audio is down, live stats is down, timeout:  show the score!   

Final:  Hawaii 71-63. Ashleigh Karaitiana with 22 points and nine rebounds, Kamilah Martin with 18 points, eight points each for Shawna Kuehu and Monica DeAngelis, five points each for Kalei Adolpho, Sydney Haydel, and Vicky Tagalicod. Commentator:  "It seems like Ashleigh Karaitiana and Kamilah Martin wore out this UC Davis team down low." Martin now has scored more than 1,000 points in her Hawaii career. Huzzah, huzzah!
